A woman struggling with London’s cost of living crisis has revealed how she left her low-paid office job after finding an alternative income source.
Alexia Woods, 20, was working six days a week but still couldn’t afford her bills on her £1,400 monthly take-home pay.
The Londoner would create content during her lunch breaks while employed, eventually transitioning to full-time self-employment in August 2022.

She now earns between £12,000-£16,000 monthly, transforming her financial situation during the economic downturn.
“I remember looking around the office one day and just thinking ‘this isn’t going to go anywhere’,” Alexia told NudeNewz.
“With bills going up and the rising cost of living, I couldn’t afford anything anymore.”
Years of Low-Paid Work

Alexia’s financial struggles began long before her office job.
She started working in hospitality at just 14 years old to supplement her family’s income.
“I have worked in some form of low-paid industry since I was 14,” she said.
“In school, I waitressed every day from 5pm-10pm until I was 18 and the restaurant shut down during lockdown.”
After the restaurant closed, she quickly found admin work but the salary proved insufficient for London living costs.
“I quickly got a new job doing admin work but I wasn’t making anything near what you need in London to live here,” Alexia explained.
After tax and national insurance deductions, her take-home pay barely covered essentials.
“After paying tax and national insurance, I was still only bringing in around £1,400 a month,” she said.

The Breaking Point

Rising inflation and increasing bills created an unsustainable situation for Alexia.
She found herself constantly anxious about money and unable to sleep.
The 20-year-old realized her current career path offered no upward mobility.
“I remember looking around the office one day and just thinking ‘this isn’t going to go anywhere’,” she said.
“I started my account soon after that.”
After hearing about others’ financial success through online content creation, Alexia decided to try it herself.
Secret Side Hustle
Initially, Alexia maintained her office job while building her online business during lunch breaks.
“It was exciting to work on my OnlyFans during the day and it definitely made the office job more exciting,” she said.
However, the arrangement required extreme caution.
“I always had to be very careful and made sure I only did it on my lunch break,” Alexia explained.
“If I got caught doing non-work-related things during office hours, I could have been sacked because it’s a fireable offence.”
Her work extended well beyond lunch breaks into evenings.
“I also spent most evenings chatting to my fans or taking more videos and photos,” she said.
“Although it was entertaining, it was exhausting juggling the two jobs.”
Like other people who’ve built businesses while employed, Alexia faced the challenge of splitting time and energy between two demanding commitments.
Building Confidence
Alexia initially felt nervous about her online presence.
“I was very cautious for the first few months because I feared getting fired from my day job,” she said.
“I also really didn’t want any awkward conversations with colleagues.”
Eventually she realized half-hearted efforts wouldn’t succeed.
“But I thought that if I’m putting myself out there, I have to do it properly,” Alexia explained.
Being Exposed

Someone from Alexia’s old school attempted to expose her by sending posts to her partner.
The incident could have been devastating but her partner already knew about her work.
“Someone from my old school sent a post from my Twitter to my partner as a way to expose me, but he already knew and was supportive,” she said.
The attempted exposure became a catalyst for broader honesty.
“This was a catalyst to tell my parents – I didn’t want anyone holding this over me,” Alexia explained.

Telling Her Parents
Alexia’s parents initially reacted with shock to her career revelation.
“They had the standard shocked reaction at first,” she said.
However, the financial reality of her success helped them understand her decision.
“I now make my old annual salary in a month and I explained to them how this work covers everything,” Alexia explained.
The dramatic income increase made her choice difficult to argue against.
“They understand and support me,” she added.
Parental acceptance evolved as they recognized her financial stability and independence.
Making the Leap
In August 2022, Alexia quit her office job to focus entirely on her online business.
The decision eliminated the exhausting dual-job schedule she’d been maintaining.
She has no regrets about leaving traditional employment.
“I’ve found so much freedom doing this full time,” she said.
“I can post what I want, when I want and I’m more in control.”
The autonomy represents a stark contrast to her previous office environment.
The Income Transformation

Alexia’s earnings now range from £12,000-£16,000 monthly.
In good months, she earns more than her entire previous annual salary.
“How much I earn ranges but in a good month, I earn more than my old yearly salary,” she said.
The financial transformation has been life-changing for someone who previously struggled with basic bills.
At her old job earning £1,400 monthly, her annual income would have been approximately £16,800.
She now makes that much or more every single month.
Mental Health Benefits
Beyond financial improvements, Alexia credits her career change with better mental health.
“It’s must better for my mental health than a 9-5,” she said.
The constant money anxiety that prevented sleep has disappeared.
She no longer faces the grinding reality of working six days weekly while still unable to afford necessities.
The control over her schedule and work reduces stress compared to rigid office hours.
New Opportunities
Financial stability has enabled experiences previously impossible on her low salary.
“As well as paying my bills, I’ve had some great opportunities to travel – I’ve been to Iceland, Malaga and Italy in the past year,” Alexia said.
These trips would have been unthinkable on £1,400 monthly while struggling to pay rent and bills.
The travel represents freedom beyond just covering basic expenses.
The Work Reality

Despite the financial success, Alexia emphasizes that her career requires serious commitment.
“Keep in mind it is a lot of hard work and you will have to dedicate a considerable amount of your time to it,” she said.
Her evening work creating content and engaging with subscribers demonstrates the hours involved.
The business isn’t passive income but active entrepreneurship requiring constant attention.
The Cost of Living Crisis Context
Alexia’s story reflects broader economic pressures facing young British workers.
The cost of living crisis has hit low-wage workers particularly hard, with inflation outpacing wage growth.
London’s housing costs consume disproportionate percentages of young people’s income.
Many in their late teens and twenties find traditional entry-level salaries insufficient for independence.
Alexia worked six days weekly from age 14 but still couldn’t achieve financial stability through conventional employment.
The Low-Pay Trap
Alexia’s experience illustrates challenges of escaping low-paid work.
She moved from waitressing to office admin but her salary barely increased.
Both positions offered little upward mobility or career progression.
Traditional advice to “work hard” proved insufficient when wages don’t cover basic living costs.
Her story raises questions about whether traditional career paths remain viable for young people in expensive cities.
Alternative Career Paths

Alexia represents growing numbers of young people seeking unconventional income sources.
The gig economy, digital platforms, and entrepreneurship offer alternatives to traditional employment.
These paths provide flexibility and potentially higher income but lack employment protections.
The trade-offs include financial instability, no benefits, and uncertain long-term viability.
Economic Predictions
Alexia believes economic conditions will push more people toward similar choices.
“As the world economy plunges, she believes others will soon follow in her footsteps,” according to the story.
Whether this prediction proves accurate depends on continued economic pressures and platform accessibility.
The Independence Factor
For Alexia, financial independence represents the most significant achievement.
After years of money anxiety and sleep deprivation from financial stress, she’s finally secure.
“You can do this all yourself,” she noted about her business model.
The self-employment provides both autonomy and accountability.
