A new study reveals OnlyFans success relies on hard work, not luck, with 78% of creator income driven by one-on-one fan chats rather than photos or videos.

A new study has shattered the myth that OnlyFans creators earn easy money by simply posting racy photos.

Research from AI-powered platform Supercreator shows that personal interaction is the real driver of income on the site, with 78% of creator activity focused on one-on-one chats rather than visual content.

For every $5,000 a fan spends, creators send an average of 2,793 messages, highlighting just how demanding the work is.

The study found that 59% of a creator’s income comes from pay-per-view messaging, while subscriptions make up just 26%, tips 13%, and livestreams a tiny 1.1%.

Top earners making over $15,000 a month rely even more heavily on direct fan chats, with over 65% of their earnings tied to this form of engagement.

Creators say the job is relentless. Bristol-based Madelaine Thomas, who earns $25,000 a month, wakes at 5am and spends over 60 hours a month just on planning, admin, and content production excluding the even greater time spent messaging fans.

People think it’s glamorous and effortless,” she said. “But this is a full-scale business that demands creativity, emotional energy, and strategic thinking.”

Alanah Cole, a former fashion industry worker now earning full-time on the platform, said most of her time is spent managing audience relationships rather than posting content.

“I’m in my DMs every day. Sexy pictures alone don’t pay the bills,” she said, adding that leaving her 9-to-5 gave her control over her schedule, even if she’s still working constantly.

Priscilla Reiss, in the platform’s top 1%, echoes the same reality. With 87,000 Instagram followers, she says she starts at 5:30am and rarely stops before midnight. “I’ve done retail, healthcare, government.

Nothing prepared me for this grind,” she said. “There’s no backup plan, no sick leave. I shoot and edit everything myself, and I never miss a day consistency is everything.”

According to Supercreator’s CEO, Yuval, the top 3% of earners work an average of six hours a day chatting or going live, often logging 12-hour days to meet fan demand. Unlike regular office jobs, much of the work happens at night when audiences are most active.
