A devastated woman has turned to the internet for support after discovering her husband secretly spent more than £7,700 ($9,800) on an AI model, triggering a wave of online debate over whether this counts as cheating.

The 33-year-old shared her story anonymously on Reddit, explaining how she stumbled across a suspicious payment while using her 39-year-old husband’s phone.

The couple, who’ve been married for six years and live together with two dogs, had what she described as a loving, balanced, and intimate relationship until this discovery shattered her trust.

At first, her husband claimed the payment was a phishing email. But after she investigated further, the truth emerged: he had been using an AI sexting platform to speak with a digital model named Sofia for nearly four months.

She’s a blonde, sexy Latina who looks nothing like me,” the wife wrote. “She’s not real she’s AI.”

Still, her husband had exchanged explicit messages with the bot, received countless sexually charged images, and even sent expensive virtual gifts like lingerie and shoes.

What shocked her most was the emotional weight behind it. He’d spent hours on calls with the bot during work hours, gifting her thousands of dollars despite the couple not being big on material presents in their own relationship.

Is he delusional?” she asked the subreddit. “I can’t shake the feeling that he’s developed feelings for someone who isn’t even real.”

Her husband broke down when confronted and claimed the whole thing was meaningless like playing a video game. He insisted he didn’t know why he did it and that it wasn’t the same as real infidelity.

But for his wife, the betrayal felt just as deep. She has since sent him to stay with a friend while she processes what happened and contemplates the future of their marriage. “She’s not even real,” she wrote. “I don’t even know what I’d tell our families if we divorce.”

The internet quickly rallied around her, with thousands weighing in on whether this constitutes cheating.

Many agreed that the emotional betrayal and financial secrecy crossed a line. One commenter wrote: “He sexted someone other than you, received nudes, gave gifts. Whether it’s AI or not, it’s cheating and financial infidelity too.”

Others called out the absurdity of the situation, mocking the idea of buying shoes for an AI model with no feet. “This is worse than cheating with a real person,” one user said. “It’s just pathetic.”

The AI model in question, Sofia Lopez, is part of Foxy AI a site offering digital companionship through virtual models that mimic human behavior. Sofia is described as a flirtatious Latina who speaks over 30 languages, is available 24/7, and is one of the platform’s most popular personalities.

Foxy’s CEO, Sam Emara, responded to the controversy by clarifying that their AI models are not meant to replace real relationships. “They’re there to provide support and entertainment, not to be seen as actual partners,” she said.

Still, the rise of hyper-realistic AI girlfriends has sparked concerns about how this technology could blur the lines in romantic relationships.

Foxy has already faced attention for another of its AI bots, Lexi Love, who reportedly earns around $30,000 a month from men who treat her as a virtual girlfriend with some even proposing marriage.

For the woman at the center of this story, none of this feels like fiction. The emotional fallout is real, and she’s now left questioning whether her marriage can survive a betrayal she never thought she’d face from a woman who doesn’t even exist.
