Vera Dijkmans, the model who went viral after opening up applications for a boyfriend and receiving over 5,000 responses, says most women are going about dating all wrong and she’s not holding back.
The 27-year-old, who lives in London and has more than seven million followers across her platforms, says only three of the thousands of men who applied actually met her standards, and even those didn’t spark a romantic connection.
Now, she’s sharing unapologetic dating advice for women who are tired of settling. At the top of her list? Self-respect and boundaries.

Vera believes too many women accept lazy behaviour from men, like last-minute “come over” texts or half-baked date ideas.

For her, if a man isn’t putting effort into planning something meaningful dinner, an activity, something that shows forethought she’s not interested. And yes, she expects a gift.
Whether it’s luxury fashion or just a thoughtful bouquet, Vera says it’s not about the price tag but the intention behind it. If a man can’t show that he values your time, he’s not worth giving it to.
She also warns women to watch for classic red flags the guy who only texts after 10pm, the one who makes big promises and never follows through, or the one who has double standards and poor hygiene.

Financial stability is a must, too. For Vera, these are non-negotiables, not preferences. She believes a relationship built without these fundamentals is doomed to fail.
Vera’s bold views haven’t gone unnoticed. While many women cheer her on, others aren’t so supportive. She’s even experienced backlash from people in her personal life, including a relative who cut her off after the boyfriend application stunt.
There have also been awkward moments in her professional world, like a makeup artist who refused to work with her because her boyfriend followed Vera online. Still, she brushes off the negativity and stands by her standards.

According to Vera, her popularity with men comes down to being unapologetically herself. She’s confident in what she wants: someone who’s smart, funny, responsible and ideally wealthy.
But despite the overwhelming attention she’s received, she’s in no rush to settle. The boyfriend hunt is officially on pause, but her expectations remain high. She says she’d rather be single than compromise on what she knows she deserves.
While she admits that being desired feels good, Vera is quick to point out that male attention isn’t the goal and that learning to value herself has been the most important lesson of all.
