Mary Carey has lived more lives than most, and she’s not shy about it. The 43-year-old former porn star, stripper, and one-time California gubernatorial candidate is now happily married to a doctor and enjoying life as a stay-at-home wife though she still entertains thousands of fans online through camming and social media.
Reflecting on her unconventional journey from small-town girl to adult industry icon, Mary’s story is one of unapologetic ambition, wild highs, and reinvention on her own terms.
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Mary grew up dreaming of a career in ballet. But her aspirations were cut short after doctors discovered an extra bone in her ankle, which made dancing en pointe painfully difficult.

Faced with giving up her dream, she pivoted first into nightlife, then adult entertainment. After winning a strip club competition, she realised she could turn her love of performing into a career.

I was already out drinking and dancing with my friends every night and thought it would be fun to get paid to be a sexy party girl,” she told Nude Newz. “The nudity didn’t phase me.”
At 21, she left Florida behind and moved to Los Angeles, where she worked the strip club circuit, rubbed shoulders with celebrities like Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson, and gradually built a name for herself.
To land higher-paying gigs, she knew she had to become a “feature girl” the elite tier of dancers who appear on flyers and pull in thousands for a single appearance.

To boost her profile, she posed for Hustler and other adult magazines, later transitioning into adult film. “For six movies a year, I made $100,000,” she revealed.
Mary didn’t just ride the adult industry wave she made headlines by jumping into politics. In 2003, at the peak of her fame, she entered the California governor’s race during the recall election that saw Arnold Schwarzenegger take office.
Her campaign was cheeky but surprisingly serious in places, with proposals like offering free porn in exchange for turning in firearms. “It was so much fun and really shot me to mainstream fame,” she said. “I was fun, dumb and full of fun back then, but my heart was in the right place.”

Though she finished 10th out of 135 candidates, the move solidified her as more than just a porn star she was a pop culture figure. Mary spent the next two decades touring, starring in late-night cable films, and even hosting her own radio show.
She became a regular at the Playboy Mansion and met Hugh Hefner briefly at a staff party. “It was brief, but he was very sweet,” she said.
In 2017, everything shifted again when she met her now-husband, an emergency room doctor. The couple split their time between Los Angeles and Florida, and while Mary retired from porn in 2007, she’s continued to connect with fans through camming and sharing racy content online.

I love entertaining and I’ve always been proud of everything I have done,” she said. “My work might look different now, but it suits me.”
Though the high-energy Hollywood lifestyle is behind her, Mary says she has no regrets. “The experiences I’ve had to be on billboards, to travel with police escorts, to see the world I wouldn’t change a thing.”
From ballet dreams to strip club stardom, from political campaigns to quiet nights at home, Mary Carey has done it all, and she’s still living life exactly how she wants.
