Caprice-Kwai Ambersley, a 22-year-old model from London, has overcome severe health challenges and bullying to make her mark in the fashion world.
Diagnosed with osteoarthritis at just 11 after a serious knee dislocation, she’s lived with chronic pain, joint hypermobility, and mobility issues ever since.
Her condition has made everyday tasks difficult and subjected her to cruel teasing during school, where classmates mocked her and took her crutches as a joke.

Despite this, Caprice-Kwai has gone on to model for major brands like ASOS, Dr Martens, and Kurt Geiger, and has even walked the runway at London Fashion Week.
She credits her mum for encouraging her to pursue modelling, reminding her to “be the change you want to see” as a Black disabled woman.
She now proudly shares her journey on Instagram and often poses with her colourful, personalised crutches from Cool Crutches, saying they’ve transformed her confidence and helped her embrace her identity.
Her medical journey hasn’t been easy. She’s undergone multiple surgeries including an osteotomy and arthroscopy, and now lives with a plate and pins in her leg.
Hospital stays became a regular part of her childhood, offering both hardship and unexpected comfort through meeting others like her.
Now representing herself as a model, she’s also working on launching a jewellery and accessories brand. Her goal is to increase visibility for disabled Black women and designers in the fashion world.
She believes style can be a source of empowerment and hopes her story helps shift perceptions of beauty and disability.
