Donna Mills spent the 1980s playing Abby Cunningham, the scheming socialite at the centre of CBS soap Knots Landing. This month, at 85, she joined OnlyFans – and she’s not shy about why.

Who is Donna Mills, and why is this news

Mills is a genuine daytime television veteran: alongside her decade on Knots Landing, she appeared on General Hospital and won a Daytime Emmy for outstanding special guest performer in a drama series. Her OnlyFans debut, announced on 3 August, made headlines less because of what she plans to post and more because of who’s posting it – she’s among the oldest mainstream celebrities to join the platform to date.

In her own words

Mills has framed the move as being about access rather than reinvention. “It offers the opportunity for a more personal and direct connection,” she said, adding that she plans to share “moments from my daily life, behind-the-scenes glimpses” rather than anything that breaks from her public persona. Her agent, Andy Bachman, described her decision to sign up in three words: “YOLO – let’s do it.” Bachman has been quick to frame the move as continuity rather than a departure, telling press it’s about “giving her longtime fans more access” on her own terms.

She’s not the only one

Mills joins a small but growing list of established entertainers using OnlyFans as a direct-to-fan channel rather than a career pivot. NudeNewz covered a similar case earlier this month when Shannon Elizabeth made $1.2 million in her first week on the platform, a figure that underlined just how much appetite there is among fans of established stars for content unmediated by a studio, a network or a publicist.

What’s actually driving this

The pattern across these cases isn’t really about adult content at all – it’s about control. Actors of Mills’ generation built careers inside a studio system that owned the relationship with the audience; residual cheques, not direct fan payments, were the extent of that connection. A subscription platform inverts that: the audience pays the performer directly, for content the performer decides on, without a network or a casting director as an intermediary. For a generation of stars watching younger creators build seven-figure businesses on exactly that model, it’s an increasingly obvious thing to try – regardless of age.
