A British OnlyFans model who grew up on a council estate has revealed how she turned her life around – swapping a tiny village in Wales for a life of luxury in Las Vegas.

Sophie Dee, 38, is the definition of a ‘rags to riches’ success story, having just landed herself on the first-ever Forbes Top 50 content creator list.

And it’s no wonder; the influencer has over 12 million followers (@sophiedee) and makes on average $350,000 a month sharing raunchy snaps of herself online.

Sophie also has three luxury properties – one of which she bought on a whim – drives a £120,000 Porsche, has invested heavily in crypto and is constantly jetting off on expensive holidays.

She’s also splashed out $60,000 on plastic surgery.

But the model’s extravagant lifestyle is a far cry from her upbringing in South Wales.

“We pretty much survived on welfare throughout my childhood,” the OnlyFans model, who joined the site in 2017, told NudeNewz.

“My family lived on a rundown council estate.

“We never had name brand products in the house – even a bottle of Coca Cola was a treat reserved for Christmas – and we had to put coins into the back of the TV when we wanted to watch it.

“I went to school in my brother’s hand-me-downs and everyone knew that we were poor.

“I’m from a tiny village – it’s about a mile long – and everyone knows everyone’s business.”

Forbes Validation

Landing on the Forbes list represents more than personal achievement for Sophie – it’s validation of an entire industry.

She said: “Now I want for nothing and it feels amazing to be on the Forbes list of top content creators, because it’s a validation of sex work.

“Sex work is work, maybe this will finally make people understand that.”

Sophie started her career out on the “hardcore side of porn”, having moved over to the US after a photographer explained she could make much more money abroad.

But her family, especially her dad, “hated” the idea of “his little girl” taking her clothes off for money.

Sophie’s mum hasn’t been a part of her life since she was a young child.

Village Mockery to Congratulations

And people in the village would mock her constantly but the model says they have all “come crawling back to congratulate” her in recent years.

She said: “My first job was a modelling competition for The Sport, after that I did a bit of nude photography and lap dancing and then a photographer offered me work in the US.

“The whole family – my dad, step-mum and brother – hated it when I started out.

“No father wants this for his daughter but dad has since come around to the idea, and understands that this is a real job.

“Before I left the UK, people in our village would stare and call me names, saying I was a slag.

“It was horrible but it actually helped better prepare me today for the challenges of becoming a public figure on social media – people can be really demeaning online.

“I went back to Wales recently and the people I used to know are doing the exact same thing they were 10 years ago, but with a few more kids in tow.

“Meanwhile, I’m a millionaire.

“I don’t know if they follow my OnlyFans, though I wouldn’t put it past them, but many of them have gotten in touch to congratulate me, which is hilarious.”

Life in Las Vegas

Sophie currently lives in a 5,000 sq ft house worth $2m with her boyfriend, Tyler, 36, and their nine rescue pets – six cats (Chloe, Mittens, Winnie, Lola, Kiki, Onyx) and three dogs (Coco, Rosie, Sammy).

She regularly flies her family over to visit and covers all the costs.

Sophie said: “I love holidays, I’m going to Medellín in Colombia at the end of this month.

“And it feels amazing that I can treat my family to everything when they come to see me.

“I work pretty much 24-7 but the time I do have, I mostly spend with Tyler and our pets, I’m a huge animal lover.

“I bought my current house on a whim, purely because it has an indoor-outdoor courtyard that my cats can hang out in.”

Like other top OnlyFans earners who’ve achieved financial freedom, Sophie uses her wealth to care for animals and support family members.

The Shein Over Prada Philosophy

Despite her millions, Sophie maintains surprisingly frugal habits in some areas.

She said: “As for clothes, you’re more likely to see me sporting a look from Shein than Prada.

“I don’t like spending full price for luxury fashion goods, I think it’s something that has stuck with me since childhood.

“When I do buy them, it’s typically second-hand.”

The childhood poverty that saw Sophie wearing her brother’s hand-me-downs and treating Coca-Cola as a Christmas luxury has left lasting psychological imprints.

Even with enough money to “retire several times over”, Sophie can’t shake the financial anxiety instilled during those welfare-dependent years.

The Secret to Success

Sharing the secret to her success, Sophie explains that it’s not enough to just post sexy photos – not if you want to be successful long-term.

Her top tip? Promote yourself.

She said: “When I first started out, my monthly earnings were all over the place.

“One month, I’d make $600, then $1,000 and once I scraped by just $200.

“The best thing I can tell anyone looking to make it on OnlyFans is do promo, and lots of it.

“I used to spend all day reaching out to more famous stars asking if they wanted to collaborate.

“I’m careful with my cash too, putting a lot of money in stocks, bonds, my pension, crypto and in business ventures.

“I recently launched a website that handles promo for models, called Shoutout Express – it became so big that we are launching a new version, Gig Social, and it has cost me $300,000 to build.”

The Poverty Mindset

Sophie’s business ventures and investment strategy reveal sophisticated financial planning that extends far beyond her OnlyFans income.

The $300,000 she’s invested in building Gig Social demonstrates both her entrepreneurial ambition and her desire to create income streams beyond content creation.

Her diversified portfolio – spanning stocks, bonds, pensions, crypto, property and business ventures – shows the careful money management of someone determined never to return to poverty.

She added: “When you grow up poor, there’s a feeling that sticks with you.

“I have enough money to retire several times over but I never stop stressing about it, and I’ll never stop trying to make more.

“I’m pretty sure I’ll be working until I’m old and grey.”

From Hardcore Porn to Forbes Recognition

Sophie’s journey from “hardcore porn” to Forbes Top 50 content creator represents the mainstreaming of adult content creation.

Her transition to OnlyFans in 2017 – relatively early in the platform’s rise – positioned her perfectly to capitalise on the shift from traditional adult entertainment to creator-driven content.

The 12 million followers she’s accumulated represent one of the largest audiences in the OnlyFans ecosystem, placing her among the platform’s elite earners.

Her $350,000 average monthly income translates to over $4 million annually, putting her earnings on par with successful traditional entertainers and entrepreneurs.

The Dad Who Came Around

Sophie’s father’s evolution from hating his daughter’s career choice to understanding it as “a real job” mirrors broader cultural shifts around sex work.

What began with family shame and village mockery has transformed into grudging respect, at least from those who’ve witnessed Sophie’s financial success firsthand.

The absence of her mother from her life since childhood means Sophie’s relationship with her father and stepmother carries extra weight.

Their eventual acceptance – however reluctant initially – provides validation that complements the Forbes recognition.

Breaking the Cycle

For the people still living in Sophie’s Welsh village, doing “the exact same thing they were 10 years ago, but with a few more kids in tow”, Sophie represents the road not taken.

Her millionaire status stands in stark contrast to the limited opportunities available in a mile-long village where everyone knows everyone’s business.

The congratulatory messages from former critics suggest that financial success ultimately overrides moral judgment, at least for some.

Whether they’re secretly subscribed to her OnlyFans – as Sophie suspects – or simply impressed by her Forbes recognition, their change in attitude highlights how money transforms social perception.

For Sophie, the coin-operated TV and brother’s hand-me-downs feel like another lifetime – one she’s determined never to revisit, even if it means working “until I’m old and grey”.
