A glamorous entrepreneur who once slept on an immigration holding cell floor just six days after major surgery has revealed how she rebuilt her life from nothing and now runs a global creator agency.
Kayla Hunter, 34, experienced one of the darkest periods of her life last year when she was denied entry into an Asian country due to visa issues while still recovering from cosmetic surgery.
The businesswoman spent nine hours in a holding cell before being placed in a shared room with three other women, where she lay face-down on the floor waiting to be put on a flight back to the UK.
Overnight, she lost the home, lifestyle, and business she had spent over a decade building.
But what could have been the end of her story became the beginning of something greater.
“People often say I’ve gone from rags to riches, and in many ways that’s true,” said Kayla, who is known as @BarbieBossDoll.

“That experience was incredibly humbling.
“I’d worked so hard for everything, and suddenly it was all gone.
“But it taught me that I could rebuild – and this time, even bigger.”
Kayla’s journey into the creator industry began over 15 years ago when she was working in television after a stint as a lingerie model.
A departing producer changed the course of her life with a single comment.
She said: “He told me I could probably earn three times as much on a live streaming platform instead of coming into work every day.
“That really caught my attention.
“As soon as I got home that evening, I signed up and gave it a try.
“That very first night, I earned my first £1,000.

“I remember thinking, ‘Wow… I can actually do this.’
“I handed in my notice shortly afterwards and never looked back.”
Growing up on a council estate in Boston, Lincolnshire, Kayla was bullied and often felt like the odd one out.
But rather than letting her circumstances define her, she left home at a young age determined to build a different future.
She said: “I was always very independent and curious.
“Even at a young age, I was mature beyond my years.
“Every challenge I’ve faced has shaped the resilient, ambitious person I am today.”
After her devastating setback last year, Kayla met her now-husband, who became her biggest supporter.
Together, they rebuilt everything from scratch – and six months ago, they tied the knot.

She said: “What started as one of the darkest periods of my life became the foundation for something even greater.
“Today, we’ve built multiple successful businesses, content houses, and beautiful villas in tropical locations.
“But what I’m most proud of is the opportunity we’ve created for others.”
Kayla’s agency works with over 25 different platforms, giving creators access to a wide range of opportunities rather than limiting them to a single site.
She said: “What sets us apart is that we don’t focus on just one or two platforms.
“We open doors across the industry.
“We’ve built a genuine community where creators have access to experienced staff, ongoing training, dedicated support, and a network where everyone helps each other grow.

“Seeing other people succeed because of what we’ve built is worth more to me than anything else.”
Despite her business success, Kayla admits the journey hasn’t always been smooth – particularly when it comes to relationships.
She said: “I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy.
“Being in this industry, my relationships haven’t always been healthy.
“I’ve experienced some very toxic situations in the past.
“Whether that was because of people’s perceptions of the industry or simply choosing the wrong partners, it taught me a lot about knowing my worth and setting boundaries.”
One of Kayla’s fondest memories involves her mum’s reaction to seeing her on television.

She said: “My mum would literally take photos of the TV because she was so proud and would tell everyone, ‘That’s my daughter!’
“Meanwhile, I’d be saying, ‘Mum, stop, you’re embarrassing me!’
“Looking back now, I’m so grateful to have had that kind of support.
“Having people who believed in me from the beginning gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward.”
As a live streamer, Kayla says her content is all about genuine connection and entertainment.
She said: “I love making my audience laugh, singing, chatting, and letting my personality shine.
“Every stream is different.

“I like making people feel like they’re spending time with a friend rather than just watching a screen.
“My goal has always been to leave people smiling and wanting to come back for the positive energy.”
Some fan requests have certainly tested her creativity over the years.
She said: “One of the funniest was someone asking me to record an entire video in a ridiculously over-the-top pirate accent.
“I don’t think I stopped laughing the whole way through.
“Another fan asked me to sing everything instead of speaking for an entire live stream.
“It actually turned into a lot more fun than I expected.”
Looking ahead, Kayla has ambitious plans for the next 12 months.
She said: “My biggest goal is to continue expanding my businesses internationally and create even more opportunities for creators around the world.

“I want to grow our community, partner with more platforms and brands, and help hundreds more people build sustainable online careers.
“I’m also passionate about breaking the stigma around the creator industry by showing that it can be run professionally, ethically, and as a genuine business.”
For those just starting out, Kayla has some straightforward advice.
She said: “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success doesn’t happen overnight.
“It’s easy to compare yourself to people who have been doing this for years, but what you don’t see are the hours of hard work behind the scenes.
“Be yourself – authenticity will always outperform trying to copy someone else.
“Treat it like a real business from day one, stay consistent even when things are slow, and never stop learning.
“Most importantly, don’t be afraid to take opportunities.
“One conversation, one livestream, or one decision can completely change the direction of your life.
“Mine certainly did.”
